My name is Whitney Durrant. I am from a small town named Salina here in Utah. I recently got married to my best friend, Jesse, and we now live in Cedar City. I am a senior at Southern Utah University majoring in Elementary Education. My emphasis is Early Childhood Education because I love working with young children. I plan to graduate in May and finish my student teaching in the fall of 2017. I can't wait to have my own classroom and get to work!
It took me a long time to find a major. I spent a semester taking random classes trying to figure out what I wanted to do. One weekend I went home, I had a very helpful conversation with my mom. I showed her my list of possible majors and she just looked at me and said you didn't even circle the obvious one. As soon as she pointed to education, everything just clicked. She was right! I loved watching little kids and I loved teaching them swimming lessons. Ever since then, I have been working on my future careers as an elementary teacher.

A few more things about me, I am the oldest of three kids. I am also the only girl child, which had its advantages growing up. My family loves spending time in the outdoors and we are currently building a family cabin. Our favorite vacation every year is going to Lake Powell and spending time in the water. My family stays very busy because my parents run a tight shift. We worked hard together growing up and they taught me some incredible lessons through that. I played basketball and softball during high school. I served in several student office positions and received my academic award all four years. My husband and I like to swim, spend time outside, watch Netflix, and go on adventures.
